VA Beach’s Surfing

Virginia Beach is the birthplace of East Coast surfing over a century ago, but in the early 1960s it really took hold in the oceanfront community. In fact, in 1963 the first Surf Carnival was held in Virginia Beach, sponsored by the local Virginia Beach Jaycees. Since those early days the surfing community has grown exponentially- both locally and abroad. What was once a single day, 12-hour event is now a week-long festival featuring competitors from around the globe, groms to Grand Masters, on short boards and long boards. Thanks to the Jaycees’ partnership with Coastal Edge, we are even able to bring the World Surf League to Virginia Beach for a world-class event! Join us in August to watch competitors ride the waves and spread stoke!
