This prestigious event by the World Surf League (WSL) boasts a $120,000 total pro purse. The Vans Pro is a Men’s WSL QS3000 with a $100,000 purse and the Vans Pro Junior is a Men’s WSL Juniors Series with a $10,000 purse. Both are presented by Coastal Edge and will run concurrently and this year includes a $5,000 pro longboard and $5,000 women’s pro event. Visitors may see many of the top surfers in the world competing in Virginia Beach! CE ECSC gives North American surfers the opportunity to gain WSL ratings points and prize money while literally taking part in surf history – North America’s oldest surf contest and the second longest continuously run surf contest in the world! CE ECSC is also one of the world’s largest surf events, attracting nearly 1,000 contestants competing in 35 divisions.
But today’s Coastal Edge ECSC is more than surfing alone – it has evolved into a multifaceted beach sports and entertainment festival that offers many visitor-friendly attractions. Seven uniquely beach-oriented sports – including skateboarding, skimboarding, stand-up paddle board, beach flag football, beach volleyball, beach cornhole and a boardwalk 5K run – are a feast for the eyes. The second annual presentation of the ECX outdoor movie theater is a truly memorable beach experience. Live music with this year’s attraction Rock of 80’s Bands, Smithereens, Romantics and the Motels, performed on a beach stage is a treat for the ears. Food and drink vendors satisfy the tummy.
Don’t forget the Coastal Edge Miss ECSC Swimsuit Pageant on aturday and Sunday. Produced annually by the Virginia Beach Jaycees and managed by Resort Management, LLC, this year CE ECSC will also include BMX demonstrations. The event is open to the public and is free of charge. Portions of the proceeds raised at the CE ECSC benefit VB Jaycees Charities.
